Photo 1 I selected this photo of the World Trade Center In New York because it represents the elements of line, shape, as well as depth. Compositionally, there is positive and negative space, an interesting point of view, leading lines and distance because of the way the position the photo is taken from below. Also there is repetition displayed by the repeated rectangle shapes all over the building. The ISO the camera was set on to take this photo was about 400. The white balance was set to cloudy. This photo shows a large depth of field. Although, the line at the top of the building starts to blur.

Photo 2 This photo was taken for the pattern texture assignment. Even though this photo was taken for the pattern and texture assignment, it is an image that shows aperture as well. What I like about this photo is the crisp texture shown on the very bottom of the palm tree and how it starts to fade and blur out towards the top. My point of view was from down bottom. The image shows a shallow depth of field. The camera was set on daylight for the white balance. The ISO was set to 100.

Photo 3I selected this photo because it has an interesting point of view. Compositionally, there is repetition, rhythm, leading lines and distance because of the way the keys move your eyes among the photo. Also there is contrast
shown by the different colored, dark and lighter keys. To take this photo I had the white balance set on incandescent lighting and set on an aperture of about f/5.6 to create this mid to shallow depth of field. |
Photo 4This photo was taken for the motion assignment. This image demonstrates a slow shutter speed. What I like about this photo is how Grace is placed in the center of the photo and also how she is the only person staying still and in focus. This makes her the center of attention to the viewers eye. My point of view was shot from the left side of the main staircase, not right on. The photo shows positive space on the entire staircase filled with people. The negative space is shown in the overexposed window with sun shining through it and the wall on the right as well. I used the levels tool and greyscale to edit this photo in photoshop. The ISO was set to about 800 since the lighting in this area has both natural sunlight coming in from the window and the fluorescent lighting from the school. The shutter speed used to freeze this action was set to about 1/5 second.

Photo 5This photo was taken for the aperture assignment. I captured this image at LaSalette. What I like about this photo is the variation of brightely colored lights in the image. My point of view was straight on and very close up. I also like how the lights cut the photo down the center of the image. The photo blurs out the area of water and other lights in the background of the image. You can notice the symmetric, glossy reflection that the lights have on the water and I liked that as well. The depth of field was set to about f/1.8.
The ISO was set to 3200. The positive space is shown by the lighted bulbs of the Christmas tree and the negative space is shown by the dark background. |
Photo 6
I selected this photo for the portrait assignment. Compositionally, there is contrast shown between the black background and Jill. Also there is positive space shown by Jill holding the camera. The negative space is shown by the black background that Jill is standing in front of. To take this photo I had the white balance set on fluorescent lighting. All of Jill is in focus. Therefore, this photo demonstrates a large depth of field. My point of view for this photo was straight on and fairly close up.
