What is the subject for your photo essay and where did you take your photographs?
The subject of my photo essay is flowers and nature. I took my photographs in my yard.
Why did you select this place?
I selected this place because it offers a variety of flowers and has a wide range of point of views to be shot at.
This image is visually interesting because it shows bright, lively colors and the greatness of spring starting up again.
What concept are you trying to portray about this topic?
The starting up of spring and the beauty in flowers blooming again. It brings you on a journey through all the different types of flowers and values.
Visually, how did your images capture the narrative or “story” of your essay?
In image 1, we are seeing the yard from a low point of view with the foreground in sharp focus while the background blurs out in the back with a touch of yellow daffodils. The story begins in the bushes and the grass, and slowly begins traveling toward patches of flowers. We then work our way closer to the flowers and show a zoomed up image of the flower to show the value each flower has. This narrative is meant to take the viewer on a journey through nature.
Discuss: the order and arrangement of your photos, composition, viewpoint, angle, lighting, color vs black and white....How did you visually unify your series of photos
The order of arrangement for these photos aim to take you on a journey through nature and lead your eyes through the trees, grass and flowers. In the beginning of the story, we are seeing bushes, grass, flowers and later led on to a close view point to get a better definition of the flowers. I took several of the photos from a low viewpoint so we can actually feel as we are there. The lighting is very bright throughout the story. This entire collection of photos has bright and flourescrent colors to make the photos unified as a whole. The meaning of this photo essay is the fresh feeling of spring as well as the beauty of spring renewal.
