Eliot Porter
My photographer is Eliot Porter. He was born in 1901 in a Chicago suburb called Winnetka, Illinois. Porters main subject matter is focusing on the simple forms of nature in the woods. Eliot works for museums and mostly for his own desires. I chose this artist because I admire how he takes the simple forms of nature and transforms it into something more interesting.
Photo Analysis: Technical Aspects of Photograph
The lighting in the photo is brighter in some areas than areas. The lighting is especially brightest on the bridge. The photo has both highlights and shadows. They are mostly shown on the wooden bridge, where there is a combination of both light and dark areas. The image correctly exposed, the light is coming from the left, casting shadows off of the trees. The photograph is in focus as well. The photo has neither a large or shallow depth of field. The camera was angled for a straight forward point of view to follow the path of the bridge to create leading lines. The image leans to be asymmetrical because the larger/darker tree on the side creates a heavier look for the right edge of the image. The photo does meet the guidelines of the rule of thirds. The main focus of the image is the wooden bridge. However, the brook leading under the bridge acts as a distraction. The photo was taken horizontally. The photograph is composed to effectively lead the eye through the work by the wooden bridge. The further the bridge branches off into the woods, the more it leads the eye through the photo.

I used this image for the light assignment. I took this photo on my sisters wedding day at the Five Bridge Inn. I like this image because I like the combination of color (greens, white and black) and how the sunlight is striking on the shrubs at an angle where it casts shadows on the house. I like the viewpoint the image was taken at as well.

I captured this image at the Five Bridge Inn. I used this photo for the light assignment as well. This is one of my favorite images I have taken this year. The sunlight is coming down at the perfect angle which casts shadows on the white wood and the bike. The mix of the flowers, red bike and shadows creates a serene and upbeat tone. I like how the Five Bridge Inn chose to use an old antique looking bike for this arrangement.

I used this image for the Somerset/Berkley assignment. This photo was captured inside the Berkley Public Library. I like the composition of this photo and the viewpoint.I also admire how the wall has a vintage look to it and is a bit worn. There is contrast between the new looking stairs and the old blue/greenish wall. There are shadows casted on the top right of the wall.

I used this image for my photo emulation on Eliot Porter. This image was captured at Cornell Farm in Dartmouth. I like the composition of this image and how everything is laid out. The image satisfies the rule of thirds with the fence and rock being the bottom left third, the greenhouse being the upper left third, and additional buildings and tanks in the distance being the right third.
